Gearing up! Fit, Fun and Fabulous in Franklin is Thursday

The Franklin Fire Department and the Franklin Police Department will battle it out in a test of strength and will at Franklin Senior High School’s stadium Thursday.
It’s part of the Fit, Fun and Fabulous event in Franklin, organized by Franklin Foundation Hospital, Teche Action Clinic, the City of Franklin and many other organizations and businesses.
The competition will be held at 5:30 a.m. at the Franklin High School stadium. The prize is a year’s worth of bragging rights to the winner of tug of war.
Franklin’s firefighters are ready for the challenge, and they have decided to tone down the verbal sparring and trash talking. They’ve decided to leave everything at the stadium.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Hildreth said, “Rather than trash talking the Franklin Police Department in their upcoming humiliating loss in tug of war, the Franklin Fire Department would like to take the high road. We will do our utmost to represent the good citizens of Franklin to the best of our ability in a contest of honest and fair sportsmanship, which should result in us beating them like a borrowed mule.”
“When it gets hot, call the fire department,” Police Chief Sabria McGuire said. “When it gets real, call the police department. The fire department likes to talk big game, but always falls behind: Harvest Moon 5K, Cajun horseshoes and securing a scene—always coming in behind the police department. The Franklin Police Department’s daily checklist consists of the following: check on citizens, check on businesses and babysit the fire department. Bad boys, bad boys whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when we pull the rope from you? We ask that citizens wear blue to support the police department. This win will be in honor of Officer Henry ‘Daddy’ Darby.”

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Chez Hope will host a candlelight vigil in honor of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.
The vigil begins at 7 p.m., Thursday at Franklin Senior High School’s stadium. Franklin Mayor Raymond Harris will read the proclamation. The candlelight vigil ends a day dedicated to promoting awareness of breast cancer, respiration, fire safety, drugs, domestic violence, health and wellness.

Franklin Foundation Hospital, Teche Action Clinic and their community partners want 4,000 people to come to Franklin Senior High School’s stadium to do the Cupid Shuffle to break the World Record.
The organizers of Fit, Fun and Fabulous in Franklin are challenging churches, schools, municipalities, parish governments, civic and social organizations, sororities and fraternities, police and fire departments, libraries, senior centers, sports teams, television and radio stations, newspapers and magazines, chambers of commerce, tourism commissions, bloggers, Masons, Eastern Stars, health clubs, banks and businesses to take part in breaking the record.

Free health screenings will take place Thursday beginning at 8 a.m.
The Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts will host health screenings for men, and The Lamp Post will be the place for women’s health screenings. Health screenings will end at 9:30 a.m.
It is part of the Fit, Fun and Fabulous in Franklin event, organized by Franklin Foundation Hospital, Teche Action Clinic, the City of Franklin and many other organizations and local businesses.
After the health screenings, a series of speakers will present information until 4 p.m. about living a healthy lifestyle. The women’s health luncheon will begin at noon at The Lamp Post; the keynote speaker will be Katy Lopez who is an anchor and reporter with KATC.
The men’s health luncheon will begin at noon at The Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts; Rudy Macklin will be the keynote speaker. Macklin is a former LSU Tiger, Atlanta Hawk and New York Nick.
