American flag retirement ceremony Sunday

Boy Scout Troop 49 and Cub Scout Pack 438 will hold an American flag retirement ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday on Lake End Parkway near the old judges stand. The public is invited to attend this event, and are welcome to bring flags they wish to have retired. Lawn chairs are recommended. The flags will be retired in accordance with the following directive from the beginning of Title 36, Section 176, of the United States Code: “No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America. ...” Furthermore, Paragraph K of this same Title 36, Section 176, states: “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
