Man pleads guility in 2014 stabbing attack

Geronimo Martinez, 29, of Morgan City, pleaded guilty Monday to accessory after the fact to aggravated second-battery after he was originally one of five suspects charged with attempted first-degree murder in an alleged December 2014 beating and stabbing in Morgan City.
Martinez was arrested Dec. 15, 2014, on the charges of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated burglary in connection with a Dec. 14, 2014 incident.
The suspects allegedly broke into a home on Levee Road, robbed a 33-year-old man of cash, beat him with a tire wrench and repeatedly cut him with a knife, according to a Morgan City Police news release.
Upon pleading to accessory after the fact to aggravated second-degree battery, Judge Ed Leonard ordered the remaining charges against Martinez dismissed on the motion of Assistant District Attorney Anthony Saleme, according to St. Mary Parish Clerk of Court records.
Leonard sentenced Martinez to four years hard labor in prison, but suspended that portion of the sentence and placed Martinez on three years of supervised probation, court records stated.
Four other people still face attempted murder charges in the case.
On Dec. 15, 2014, Mariah Grimes, 21, of Morgan City, was arrested on a warrant charging her with attempted first-degree murder armed robbery, and aggravated burglary.
Three more suspects were apprehended on Dec. 18, 2014.
Jesus Munoz Perez, 30, of Morgan City, was arrested on warrants charging him with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, armed robbery, and a detainer for immigrations enforcement.
Zenen Vasquez, 24, of Morgan City, was arrested on warrants charging him with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, armed robbery, and a detainer for immigrations enforcement.
Ossiel Munoz Perez, 28, of Fielders Court in Houma, was arrested on a warrant charging him with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, armed robbery, and a detainer for immigrations enforcement.
On Dec. 14, 2014, the Morgan City Police Department responded to a 911 call where the victim said men had entered his home and cut him with a knife, according to a Morgan City Police news release.
Officers arrived at the home located in the 800 block of Levee Road to find the victim bleeding from several gashes and wounds about his body. The victim was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center where he was treated and transported to a New Orleans hospital.
Detectives investigating the incident learned from the victim that a woman came to his home, and with the help of several men, gained entry into his front door and attacked and robbed him of an unspecified amount of cash.
The victim said the suspects beat him with a tire wrench and cut him repeatedly with a knife in the robbery.
The victim was able to summon help after the suspects left his home.
Morgan City Police investigators began their search for the suspects and, through interviews, identified Grimes and Martinez as persons of interest.
Investigators searched several areas in the city and eventually located Grimes and Martinez. Both Grimes and Martinez were arrested and charged for their alleged involvement.
Investigators also identified Jesus Perez, Vasquez and Ossiel Perez as persons of interest, suspected of having knowledge of the crime. Investigators suspected that they had fled the Morgan City area.
Investigators were successful in locating those individuals in Vidor, Texas, after they were stopped and detained. Texas authorities arrested Jesus Perez, Vasquez, and Ossiel Perez on Morgan City Police warrants.
