‘Operation Christmas Child’ delivers in St. Mary Parish

Organizers of the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox gifts collection reported that a total of 6,579 gifts were collected this year.
That figure represents an increase of 1,500 boxes collected last year, organizers say.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse headed by Franklin Graham. Filled boxes are collected from across the United States and then delivered to children around the world. For many of the children, the shoebox will be the first gifts they have ever received.
Locally, boxes were collected from churches, organizations, businesses and individuals then brought to the First Baptist Church of Morgan City and trucked to one of the five processing centers across the country. There, the boxes were carefully packed, labeled and shipped to a specific country.
Although, the local drop-off location here in St. Mary Parish is closed until next year, shoebox gifts can be packed any time. With a computer or mobile device, anyone can conveniently pack a personalized Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift on the Samaritan’s Purse website year-round.

Givers can select toys and gift items, write a note of encouragement and “pack” them in a shoebox. After the shoebox is packed and sent by the Operation Christmas Child team, participants can discover where in the world their gifts will be delivered.
