Online bomb threats to schools under investigation

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a second report of a Facebook post containing a possible bomb threat to St. Mary Parish schools including the school board, according to a Monday news release.
Schools that received the possible threat included B.E. Boudreaux Middle School, West St. Mary High School and Raintree Elementary School, the release said.
“We started school as usual, no interruptions,” St. Mary Parish Schools Superintendent Leonard Armato said this morning.
On Jan. 10, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received a report of a Facebook post of a possible bomb threat to B.E. Boudreaux Middle School. Deputies conducted searches of the school and found no evidence of any type of explosive device, a news release said. Deputies were also at the school Jan. 11 as a precaution.
The school board has procedures in place to handle possible threats and tries not to disrupt the education process, Armato said.
“We don’t take anything lightly,” Armato said. “We do things to make sure all avenues are safe for our kids to attend (school).”
Detectives are working closely with the St. Mary Parish School Board to implement additional safety measures as a precaution, the release said. Both posts are under investigation.
