Rachel Ann Ward DeJean was a native of Baldwin and a resident of Jeanerette. She was born on March 28, 1973 in Lafayette to the late Emily Babino Williams Phillips and Ashton Ward Jr.
She began her Christian journey at an early age at Special Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C.E. Batiste. She knew all 66 books of the Bible and she loved the Lord. Later in life, she yoked up with Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church in 2008 under the leadership of Pastor Allen S. Randle Sr., where she rededicated her life to Christ and was later baptized alongside her then fiancé, Peter DeJean in 2014.
Rachel and Peter were united in Holy Matrimony on March 28, 2015. Together they not only raised a loving family, but were also building their future together.
Rachel was a hard worker. She was employed by Cypress Bayou Casino from April 4, 1995 until her retirement on April 21, 2014. After retiring, she and Peter began their own business, R&D Contracting, LLC servicing all surrounding areas. She was also a member of the Jeanerette Volunteer Fire Department.
