GLYNN ALSTON SHARP

June 25, 1935 - February 21, 2016
Glynn Alston Sharp, 80, a resident of Prairieville, Louisiana, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Glynn was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana, on June 25, 1935, and raised in Sharp, Louisiana. He married Jerry Jean Hano of Madisonville, Louisiana, on May 20, 1967.
He was a longtime resident of the Tri-City area, most recently moving to Prairieville, Louisiana, to be near his children and grandchildren. Glynn, affectionately known as Dad, Big G, Grandpa, Pops, Par Par, and Parps, graduated from Boyce High School in 1953 and then from Louisiana State University in 1958 with a BS in General Business.
Glynn was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a cryptographer in the Signal Corps from 1958-1960. He retired from CLECO as a customer service manager after 36 years of loyal service.
He served his community through many civic organizations such as: Louisiana Jaycees-President and National Director; Morgan City-Berwick-Patterson area Chamber of Commerce-President; Morgan City Rotary Club-President, with recognition of its highest honor as a Paul Harris Fellow; and Patterson High School Athletic Booster Club-President.
Glynn was a true Louisiana sportsman. He enjoyed bass fishing and squirrel hunting. He was an avid LSU Tiger fan and enjoyed bowling, daily crossword puzzles, and many family camping trips.
Glynn was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 48 years. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jerry Jean; four children, Tricia Sharp Carlson and husband, Frederic Jr., Michelle Sharp Pennington and husband, Coby, Monica Sharp Eues and husband, Corey, and Brian Alston Sharp and wife, Dawn B. Sharp, MD; and nine grandchildren, Jarrett, Gracie and Caitlin Eues, Abby and Emma Pennington, Bailey and Tanner Carlson, and Baker and Mack Sharp. He also is survived by two sisters, Janet Sharp Brandon and husband, Don, and Sherry Sharp Ingram and husband, John; and three brothers, the Rev. James E. Sharp and wife, Dorothy, the Hon. Donald R. Sharp and wife, Jan, and Duane W. Sharp and wife, Freida.
Glynn was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Vera Weir Sharp; and his in-laws, Jesse E. and Margaret Raiford Hano.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales, Louisiana. Visitation will resume Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at 9 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. A Christian burial will follow on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Stanga Family Cemetery in Bedico, Louisiana.
Memorial contributions may be made in Glynn A. Sharp’s name to the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation which provides children with disabilities and wounded warriors the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing.
