School board will meet Thursday
CENTERVILLE—St. Mary Parish School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday at the Central Office Complex.
The board will recognize March students and employees of the month.
Students of the month are 12th-grader Keonna John, Patterson High; eighth-grader Kaelon Smith, Franklin Junior High; and fifth-grader Brooklyn Doiron, Wyandotte Elementary school.
Employees of the month are Debbie Wade, Patterson High; Amy Gilliam, Franklin Junior High; and Carol Schaub, Wyandotte Elementary school.
In addition, St. Mary Parish students of the year will be recognized. They are fifth-grader Sarai Jonelle Richardson, M.D. Shannon elementary; eighth-grader Kate Hicks, Berwick Junior High School; and 12th-grader Bria Burrell, West St. Mary High school.
C.E. Bourg will appear before the board to discuss a loan that was approved for consolidated school District No. 2. This specific district covers Bayou Vista, Berwick, and Patterson.
As for new business, the board will vote to approve the following:
—St. Mary Parish Calendar for 2016-17 school year.
—Recommendation regarding property insurance renewal for boiler and machinery coverage for the year commencing April 1.
—Recommendation regarding property insurance renewal for building and contents coverage for the year commencing April 1.
—Recommendation regarding workers compensation insurance for the year commencing May 1.
—Recommendation to retain services of third party administrator and safety consultant to assist the board with the workers compensation program.
The school board chief financial officer Alton Perry will announce an upcoming adoption of millage rates for 2016 scheduled on May 12 during the monthly meeting.
Superintendent Leonard Armato will consider authorization of a request to approve summer feeding programs at St. Mary Alternative Program site, H. A. Watts and J.B. Maitland or M.D. Shannon elementary schools.
The school board will hear a sales tax update and superintendent’s report. The council will also discuss other business as allowed by Act 131.
