MCHS rallies to beat Madison Prep
Behind a huge fifth-inning rally, the Morgan City Tigers rallied to beat Madison Prep, 8-7, in high school baseball action in Morgan City Friday.
Trailing 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Morgan City plated seven runs in the frame for an 8-5 advantage.
While Madison Prep scored two runs in the top of the sixth, it could get no closer.
Each team scored a run in the second, while Madison Prep added three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 5-1 advantage.
Philip Hutchinson led Morgan City with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI. Other top contributors included Rhett Fryou, 2-for-3, two RBIs, a stolen base and a run; Malik Phillips, 2-for-3, two RBIs and a run; Evan Stadalis, 1-for-3, a double; and Colby Glatter, an RBI and a run
Morquisse Charles, the second of four Morgan City pitchers used, earned the win in relief. In one inning, he surrendered three runs — one earned — on three hits with one hit batter.
Gage Hirschmann started for Morgan City and in four innings, he allowed four runs — two earned — on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Madison Prep outhit Morgan City, 11-9, in the loss.
Of Madison Prep’s seven runs, just three were earned as Morgan City committed two errors.
Morgan City (7-9) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 7-4A play at home against South Lafourche in a 6 p.m. contest.
