Hanson Tigers turn back Central Catholic Eagles, 7-3

MORGAN CITY _ The Hanson Memorial Tigers upped their District 7-1A record to 7-2 following Tuesday’s 7-3 victory over the Central Catholic Eagles.
John Guieze went the distance for the Tigers, turning in another brilliant outing for the mound victory. Guienze fired seven complete innings, facing 34 batters while tossing 124 total pitches for 74 strikes and 50 balls. Guienze, who outdueled four Central Catholic pitchers, gave up one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Central Catholic’s Greg Leger suffered the loss after working 3.67 innings, giving up four runs (2 earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and seven walks. Blake Hidalgo, Charlie Solar and Samuel Guarisco all appeared in relief.
Hanson rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the top half of the second frame when John Higdon, Payton Trahan and Luke Lancon all tagged home plate to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage. In the fourth frame, Bo Barrilleaux doubled before giving way to courtesy runner Brock Broussard who later taggedd home plate to lift the Tigers to a 4-1 cushion. Hanson stretched its lead to 6-1 in the top half of the sixth frame when Barrilleaux and John Guienze reached on consecutive walks, putting runners in scoring position. Broussard, who replaced Barrilleaux at second base, later scored ahead of Guienze to give the Hanson Tigers a 6-1 advantage. Ashton Corcoran singled and later tagged home plate to hand the Tigers the 7-3 victory.
Hanson batters supported Guienze by taking advantage of nine walks on the day.

Hanson (14-7, 7-2) is scheduled to host Central Catholic Thursday.
