Matt Dusk explores Chet Baker catalog
JUNO-nominated performer Matt Dusk pays homage to Chet Baker, an artist who deeply influenced him, in a Community Concert Association performance at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan City Municipal
Tickets will be available at the door or by calling 985-385-2307. The adult season ticket price is $45, and the student (K-12) price is $10.
Like countless listeners and lovers around the world, Dusk gets lost in the music of Chet Baker. With “My Funny Valentine,” he introduces Baker’s repertoire to a new generation.
Recorded in Toronto, Dusk and an 80-piece orchestra are joined by Grammy-winning trumpet and flugelhorn virtuoso Arturo Sandoval, JUNO-award-winning jazz king Guido Basso, Canadian singer Emilie-Claire Barlow and “Straight No Chaser” alum Ryan Ahlwardt.
The 12-song album digs deep into Baker’s vast and varied catalogue. The set list glides from signature ballads like “Deep in a Dream” and the unconditional-love title track, “My Funny Valentine,” to swinging renditions of standards like “Let’s Get Lost,” “All The Way,” “Embraceable You” and “Come Rain Or Come Shine.”
The Community Concert Association of Morgan City Inc. was formed in 1947 and continues to bring world-class entertainment to the tri-city area of Morgan City, Berwick and Patterson, as well as the rest of St. Mary Parish and surrounding parishes. Strong adult and student membership help insure continuing concerts for the area.
Two more concerts are included in this series, Matt Dusk on Tuesday and Savannah Jack on May 19.
