Hanson wins over Highland Baptist
NEW IBERIA _ Luke Lancon, Chase Mensman, Brennan Young, Evan Thibodeaux and Clint Young all scored in the top half of the sixth frame, lifting the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 13-2 District 7-1A victory over the Highland Baptist Bears here Saturday.
Hanson built an 11-2 lead with the five-run explosion in the sixth inning.
Hanson broke open a scoreless game when Luke Rodriguez and Josh Sanchez tagged home plate for a 2-0 lead in the top half of the third frame.
In the fourth inning, Brennan Young crossed home plate to give the Tigers a 3-0 cushion.
Luke Lancon, Chase Mensman and Brennan Young circled the base paths in the fifth as the Tigers increased their lead to 6-0.
Highland managed two runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to trail Hanson by a 6-2 margin.
Hanson extended its lead to 11-2 with five runs in the top half of the sixth inning after Lancon, Mensman, Brennan Young, Thibodeaux and Clint Young all crossed home plate.
The Tigers strolled away with the 13-2 victory after Lancon and Payton Trahon scored in the top half of the seventh inning.
Hanson’s Spencer Bishop started on the hill and worked three complete innings, allowing one hit, one walk while fanning three. He faced 12 batters while throwing 27 total pitches with 19 strikes and eight balls.
Evan Thibodeaux worked two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Thibodeaux faced 10 batters while throwing 46 pitches, including 32 strikes and 14 balls.
Josh Sanchez hurled the final two frames, surrendering no runs, no hits with three strikeouts while facing six batters and tossing 25 total pitches for 16 strikes and 9 balls.

Hanson will host Highland Baptist on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in district action.
