Two booked on assault, battery charges

Two Morgan City men were arrested Thursday after one of them threatened another man, and the other suspect pushed a man during a confrontation in Patterson, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in news release.

—Ronnie Lake, 33, of the 800 block of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:31 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with simple assault.

—Robert Stansbury Jr., 32, of the 1400 block of North Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:31 p.m. Thursday on a warrant on the charge of simple battery.

The warrants were issued following an investigation into a complaint of a battery. A deputy collected evidence that Lake threatened a male victim with physical violence and that Stansbury pushed a male victim during a confrontation at a home in Patterson.

A deputy patrolling the Patterson area observed a group of people swimming near the Half Bridge on Victoria Riverside Road. While advising the group of the parish ordinance prohibiting swimming from bridges, the deputy made contact with Lake and Stansbury and located the active warrants for their arrests.

Lake and Stansbury were booked into parish jail. Lake was later released on a summons to appear in court July 25. Stansbury was released on $500 bail.

Hebert reported responding to 31 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—Kristy R. Ribardi, 38, of the 100 block of Home Lane in Berwick, at 1:36 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. Ribardi turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. Following her arrest, Ribardi was released on a summons to appear in court July 25.

—Merlin M. Venable, 52, of the 1000 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, at 7:58 p.m. Thursday on the charge of theft. A deputy investigating a reported theft at the Amelia Belle Casino found evidence that Venable took another customer’s ticket and cashed it out. Venable was located at his home and following the investigation, transported to the parish jail for booking. Venable was released on $1,000 bail.

—Amy Turner, 41, of the 100 block of Guzzetta Drive in Berwick, at 9:21 p.m. Thursday on the charges of theft of goods and possession of drug paraphernalia.

—Erica Alexander, 33, of the 100 block of Guzzetta Drive in Berwick, at 9:21 p.m. Thursday on the charge of theft of goods.

A deputy investigating a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista made contact with two suspects, Turner and Alexander. The deputy found several items concealed in their purses that Turner and Alexander had not paid for. The deputy also received consent to search the vehicle the two suspects were in and located a glass pipe used to consume methamphetamine. Turner and Alexander were released on summons to appear in court July 25.

Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:

—Tracy Silva, 51, of Park Road in Morgan City, at 10:03 a.m. Thursday on warrants charging her with no license plate, no vehicle inspection sticker and no driver’s license.

Officers located Silva at a home on Park Road where she was arrested on several arrest warrants held by the Morgan City Police Department. Silva was jailed.

—Arthur J. Oncale Jr., 61, of Cypress Street in Morgan City, at 3:40 p.m. Thursday on the charge of simple battery.

Officers responded to a home on Cypress Street in regards to a call of a disturbance. The officers arrived and located Oncale along with several witnesses to the incident, one being identified as the victim who showed signs of a battery.

Officers investigated the incident and learned that Oncale and the victim were involved in an argument when Oncale allegedly committed a battery on the victim. Oncale was jailed.

—Celeste A. DeLaune, 32, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, at 2:02 a.m. today on the charge of possession of marijuana and on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of careless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to appear on the charge of careless operation of a motor vehicle and failure to appear on the charge of no driver’s license.

Officers responded to a drug store on Brashear Avenue in regards to a call of a suspicious person inside the store. Officers arrived and located DeLaune inside the store who matched the description provided. A warrants check revealed that DeLaune had several arrest warrants.

DeLaune was placed under arrest, and the officer later located suspected marijuana in the area where DeLaune had been. DeLaune was jailed.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
