FREIDA AGNES MAGGERT
April 14, 1927-June 20, 2016
Our Dear Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, Mrs. Freida Agnes Maggert, 89, of Patterson, Louisiana, died peacefully on June 20, 2016, at Patterson Healthcare Center.
She was born to Arno and Frieda (Rocklage) Seidel on April 14, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri. She married her husband, Arthur Maggert, in Ohio and after he returned from World War II, the couple moved to Atlanta, Michigan, and bought a farm. There they raised a family and loved each other for over 60 years.
Freida worked hard to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education from Michigan State University. She went on to teach in the Alpena school system for over 20 years.
Freida was a member of the Atlanta Senior Center and past treasurer. She loved to craft, read, and knit and had a great love of computers and technology. Freida and her husband traveled all over the country and a favorite pastime of theirs was fishing in Canada.
Freida and Arthur made gallons of maple syrup every year and the grandkids all knew you could have maple syrup on anything at Grandma’s house. In her later years, she lived in Colorado and the last 4½ years she lived in Louisiana, where she lived when she passed. Freida will be remembered with love and laughter.
She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Donna) Maggert of Broomfield, Colorado, and Carl (Margaret) Maggert of Sanford, Michigan; and daughter, Rose (Blackie) Morgan of Patterson, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Memorial services for Mrs. Maggert will take place at 1 p.m. Monday July 11, 2016, at Bayou Vista Community Fellowship, Bayou Vista, Pastor Brian Head officiating.
