JERRI ELAINE HAMMOND GOYNE

Jerri Elaine Hammond Goyne, 73, of Morgan City, Louisiana, died April 13, 2016, in Houma, Louisiana, with her family at her side.
Born Nov. 4, 1942, in Deville, Louisiana, Jerri was the second child of John and Elva Parker Hammond from the Hickory Grove Community of Deville, Louisiana.
She is survived by two children, Dana Lynn Hudson Babin (David) and Gary Lane Hudson II (April), all of Morgan City, Louisiana. She was the proud and loving Nanny to four grandchildren, Michael Babin, Kimberly Babin, Riley Hudson and Parker Hudson.
Jerri also is survived by two siblings, Betty Faye Moore of Deville, Louisiana, and John B. Hammond of Pineville, Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jerri was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Goyne of Morgan City, Louisiana; her older sister, Vivian Wiggins of Deville; and her brother-in-law, Richard Moore of Deville.
A 1960 graduate of Buckeye High School, Jerri moved to South Louisiana in 1965 where she made her home for the remainder of her life.
She loved Mardi Gras season, reigning as Galatea Queen in 2000. Jerri loved all things Cajun, especially her Cajun son-in-law’s rice dressing. She was an avid deer and elk hunter and was passionate about fresh water and salt water fishing. She spent many happy hours on the water making memories with her family and friends.
Jerri loved her family, her friends and her life, and fought a courageous long-term battle with cancer to stay involved and present until the very end. Always supportive of her children and grandchildren, Jerri stayed engaged in their daily lives and made an enormous impact on each of them. She will always be remembered for her courage, her devotion to her family, her tenacity of spirit and with never-ending love.
A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at her home in Morgan City, Louisiana, on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 2 p.m. for family and friends.
Interment will be at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Deville, Louisiana, on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Scull officiating at a graveside service.
