L. L. ‘LOOPY’ LANGSTON
March 18, 1934 ~ May 3, 2016
L. L. “Loopy” Langston, a native of Pollock, LA and a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at his home at the age of 82 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 following a brief illness.
Loopy was a 1953 graduate of Pollock High School and went on to Northwestern State University to receive a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He was drafted in the 1957 NBA Draft to the St. Louis Hawks but declined to marry the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Motter. They moved to Franklin in 1962 and he began teaching in the St. Mary Parish School system, mostly at LaGrange Elementary School in Franklin.
Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Langston Mason and her husband, Anthony of Prairieville; two granddaughters, Courtney Claire Mason and Mackenzie Kate Mason, both of Prairieville; his sisters, Bobbye White and her husband, Alex of Alexandria; Carolyn Bozarth and her husband, Joe of Conroe, TX; and Louise Guillot and her husband, Ray of West Monroe; and his brother-in-law, John Motter and his wife, Mary Ann of Campti.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Ruth Motter Langston; his parents, Charles Edward Langston and Gertrude Deville Langston; and his sister, Ruth Robertson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, May 4, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin from 5 p.m. until time of service, which will begin at 8 p.m. On Thursday, May 5, graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. in the Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Pineville, LA. The Rev. Sue Pugh will officiate the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Naquin, Al Kuhlman, Dalton Simoneaux, Ricky Guillot, Kenneth Guillot and Kendall Guillot. Honorary pallbearer will be Dale Robicheaux.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Shannon LeBlanc, Sherry Carter, LaTonga Elliot, Denise White, Terrenisha Carter, Mariah Johnson and Alison Madinson, as well as the staff of St. Joseph Hospice.
