Min. Melvin Jackson was a native of Sorrell and a resident of Franklin. He was born on August 17, 1949 to the late Leroy Jackson Sr. and the late Cora Gabriel Jackson. He began his Christian journey at an early age with St. Moses Baptist Church. He attended public schools in St. Mary Parish, graduated from Park Avenue High School in 1967 and attended and graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. He was a member of the SU Band for one year and decided he wanted to devote his time to his studies. His degree in Management afforded him almost 20 years of several positions as assistant manager and manager of Eckerd Drugs (now CVS); manager of one of the largest volume TG&Y Stores in the country; and manager of Burger King. Later in life he moved back home to the Sorrell area, and began to encounter his spiritual walk with the Lord. While on this journey, he met his beloved and devoted wife, Andrea Theriot Jackson.
Min. Melvin and Andrea were united in Holy Matrimony August 28, 1999. Together they not only raised a loving family, but were also building their future together in the Lord.
He was a hard worker. He was employed by SMI Fabricators. Upon leaving them, he went to Bay Offshore. Upon his retirement he was with Superior Fabricators.
He preached his first sermon on December 3, 2011. On May 8, 2014 he was giving his preacher licenses.
Min. Melvin Jackson went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 26, 2016 at AMG Parks Place Surgical Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Jackson Sr. and Cora Gabriel Jackson; four sisters, Mary Jackson, Betty Thomas, Nora Jackson and Joyce August; three brothers, Leroy Jackson Jr., Talmadge and Bernard Jackson.
Those he leaves to cherish his most treasured moments include his loving and devoted wife, Andrea Jackson of Franklin; three sons, Aaron Climax (Torsha), Josh Dias (Emoni) and Damien Jackson; two daughters, DeShella (Troy), Andrenique Climax; two brothers, Cleveland Sr. (Amy), Ernest (Mary); two sisters, Ida Mae Swan and Blanche Charles; three granddaughters, Faith Phillips, Trinity Climax and Tia Taylor; three grandsons, LaZarion Butler, Chase Taylor, Cody Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
