SARAH L. THOMAS

March 5, 1951 ~ June 15, 2016
Sarah L. Thomas, a native of Berwick and a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at the age of 65 on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans. Sarah was born on March 5, 1951 to the late Ywell Silas Thomas Sr. and the late Rosa Rouse Thomas Van Pelt. She retired from the Baldwin Police Department in 2011, ending her 23 year long career in law enforcement, which began in 1988 with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department. Everyone that knew Sarah knows she walks with Jesus. She had a smile would light up the room and had a way of making each person feel like they were her favorite. She was a loving mother and grandmother, an honest person, and a great friend who gave her all to everyone she knew.
Survivors include her three children, Tammy Luke and her husband Darran; Kimberly Vasquez and her husband, Martin; and Bryan Tyler and his wife, Jazmine; her grandchildren, Olivia Luke, Sarah Luke, Jude Vasquez, Daniel Vasquez and Isaiah Tyler; her sister, Anne Moore; her brothers, Alvin Forrest and his wife, Elena; and Roy Ashley Forrest and his wife, Jean; her beloved dog, Ginger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her brother, Ywell Silas “Tommy” Thomas Jr.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, June 20, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 6:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Chris Holloway conducting the service. An intimate private inurnment will be held at a later date by the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Sarah’s name to Little Pass Baptist Church, P.O. Box 171, Charenton, LA 70523.
