Morgan City High School’s Brady Fryou will continue his baseball career on the collegiate level as he has signed with LSU of Alexandria.
Fryou, who actually submitted his paperwork last week, held a signing ceremony at the school Wednesday.
While during the recruiting process, Fryou said he considered William Carey, Mississippi College, Centenary, and Louisiana College, but narrowed his choices down to William Carey and LSUA.
LSUA won out.
“This one was closer, so it made it (the decision) a little bit easier,” Fryou said.
The Morgan City High School first baseman said he also likes the school and the coaching staff.
Additionally, he was able to talk to someone on the team that he already knows, Brooks Richard, a former Berwick High School standout who is redshirting this year with the LSUA team.
“I did talk to him a little bit to see how he liked it over there, and my parents and his parents are friends a little bit,” Fryou said.
As for the situation at first base at LSUA, Fryou said the school has a senior playing the position and has a sophomore first baseman on the roster.
He said the coaching staff is looking for someone to come in and split time at first.
“Not saying I’m going to play my freshman year, but they want somebody tall to come over there and have a shot to play, split some time,” he said.
As for strengths that he brings to the team, Fryou said his height with his 6-foot, 6-inch frame and his athleticism at the position.
“I’m not just like a big guy that they put over there because he can hit, I can also swing it a little bit as well,” Fryou said.
Morgan City High School baseball coach Tim Vidos, who is in his second year, said LSUA is getting a good infielder.
“He’s a hard worker,” Vidos said. “He’s a team leader on the field. With his height, that’s going to help him in the long run. Plus, what he can do at the plate. It’s hard to find a real good first baseman that can also hit the ball like he does.”
In recent years, Fryou has played on a showcase team during the summer and fall for Houma-based baseball academy South Louisiana Select.
Lanc Crochet, owner of South Louisiana Select, said he has seen changes in Fryou’s confidence and understanding of the game since he has been working with him.
“He’s got an athletic build, and he’s kind of rare for baseball players, I guess you could say, around our area where he’s 6-6 and super athletic, he can really play any position on the field,” Crochet said. “You see a guy like that and most people want him to just play first base, which isn’t bad either, but as far as the next level is concerned, he can play third, short, even if you wanted him to play second (or) outfield. I played him in centerfield, short, first base. The biggest thing about Brady is that he’s going to provide above average glove with above average athletic ability. He’s going to find a way to get on base and get the job done. (He is) a complete team player. He’s the kind of guy you want on your team.”
