Laqwaijhia Bourgeois earns honorable mention honors

Morgan City junior basketball player Laqwaijhia Bourgeois earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 4A honorable mention All-State honors.
Bourgeois scored 181 points in district and averaged about 18.1 points a game. She also averaged 9.1 rebounds a game.
“Laqwaijhia Bourgeois made a huge impact this year for us. … She was a clutch player for us this year and stepped up big time,” Morgan City coach Taylor Crappell said. “She is a junior this year, so I’m very thankful that we will still have her for another year. She has continued to grow, and I look forward to seeing what all her senior year has to offer for her.”
Morgan City finished its season with a 5-16 mark.
Morgan City wasn’t the only school from District 7-4A represented on the 4A All-State teams.
South Lafourche’s Traya Bruce was a second-team selection after the sophomore averaged 20 points a game this season. Bruce’s teammate, Caroline Guilbeau, earned honorable mention status.
Other District 7-4A honorable mention selections included South Terrebonne’s Monet Cox, Assumption’s Katelyn Moore and Ellender’s Terris McKay.
