Patterson AAA All-Stars advance to regionals

The Patterson AAA (9- and 10-year-old) All-Stars qualified for regional competition with a runner-up finish at the District 3 Tournament at Peltier Park in Thibodaux this past weekend.
Patterson, which finished 1-2 in district play, fell in the district title game to Franklin, 4-3, Sunday.
Patterson fell in its tournament opener to Franklin, 10-2, Thursday.
On Friday, Patterson defeated Thibodaux, 4-1.
Patterson fell to Franklin Sunday in a much closer game and finished as district runner-up.
“The kids played very good defensively, Patterson coach Willis Dore said. “The pitching was good.”
However, Dore said his squad struggled offensively.
Both Patterson and Franklin, the district champion, will move on to regional action, which will be played here in eastern St. Mary Parish, beginning next weekend.
Morgan City 11s finish 2nd in district
The Morgan City 11-year-old All-Stars finished second in District 3 tournament action this weekend at Peltier Park in Thibodaux, defeating Thibodaux but falling to Franklin twice. The second of the games against Franklin was for the district championship.
“The team played well above the expectations,” Morgan City coach Mike Nelson said. “Our three starting pitchers got moved up to the 12s. We had a lot of guys that stepped up and pitched that don’t normally pitch.”
Against Thibodaux, Morgan City won 13-3 in five innings.
Drew Miller led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and three RBIs, while Elijah Brown finished 1-for-1 with a double and three RBIs.
Dylan Duval earned the win. In three innings, he surrendered one run and had three strikeouts. Carson Nelson pitched two innings and surrendered two runs and fanned three.
On Saturday, Franklin defeated Morgan City 12-2 in five innings.
Miller suffered the loss. In three innings, he surrendered six runs and struck out one. Ty Ribardi pitched two innings of relief and surrendered six runs. He fanned one.
Miller led Morgan City offensively with a 1-for-1 performance with two walks.
On Sunday in the championship game, Franklin run-ruled Morgan City, 16-6, in five innings.
Duval suffered the loss as he surrendered seven runs. Nelson, Miller and Vernon Singleton each saw time on the mound, too.
Offensively, Duval finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Brown was 1-for-1 with a solo home run and two RBIs.
While Morgan City concludes its all-star season, Franklin will continue postseason play on the state level.
Morgan City 9s finish
2nd in district
The Morgan City 9-year-old All-Stars finished second in district action at Peltier Park in Thibodaux this past weekend with a 1-3 mark.
While Morgan City fell to Thibodaux, 15-11, in game 1 Saturday, the squad bounced back with an 18-8 run-rule victory in four innings Sunday against Thibodaux.
However, in the finale for the district championship against Thibodaux, Morgan City fell 12-0 in four innings.
“All the guys did well,” Morgan City coach Andrew Mancuso said. “They all stepped up and got better through a short season.”
Mancuso said for a lot of players on his team, this was their first time playing all-stars.
Morgan City concludes its season, while Thibodaux will continue postseason play at the state level.
Mancuso thanked Stuart Vincent and Morgan City Junior High School for use of their facilities for practice.
Patterson Majors All-Stars finish 0-2 at district
The Patterson Majors All-Stars (11- and 12-year-old) finished 0-2 at the District 3 Tournament at Peltier Park this weekend, falling 3-1 to Franklin Friday and 6-4 to Thibodaux Saturday.
In Friday’s contest, Franklin scored a run each in the first three innings, while Patterson scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth.
Franklin outhit Patterson, 6-4.
Kaden Samuels led Patterson offensively with a 3-for-3 performance with a triple and an RBI. Dylan Fabre added a 1-for-2 performance for Patterson.
Samuels suffered the loss. In three innings, he surrendered three unearned runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Drake Dinger pitched three innings of relief and surrendered three hits, one walk and fanned seven.
Against Thibodaux, Patterson took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Thibodaux responded with six runs in bottom of the fifth inning.
Patterson outhit Thibodaux, 8-6.
Fabre led Patterson with a 2-for-2 performance with a run. Other top offensive contributors included Randon Paul, 1-for-2, a stolen base; Dinger, 1-for-3, a double, two RBIs and a run; Allen Everitt, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Freddy Mosley, 1-for-3, a double; Jonathon Cheely, 1-for-3, a run; and Jonathon Picou, 1-for-3.
Patterson used four pitchers with Mosley suffering the loss. In 0.1 innings, he surrendered two runs — both earned — on no hits with two walks.
Franklin won the district title, while Thibodaux is the district runner-up. Both will continue postseason play next weekend at regional sites in St. Mary Parish.
