Patterson 10U All-Stars finish third at state

We lost our first game and went into the loser’s bracket and fought our way through the loser’s bracket … Their attitude and effort was great and they played well in all areas — fielding, hitting and pitching.

The Patterson 10U All-Stars finished third at the Babe Ruth 10U State Tournament in Houma this weekend, working their way through the elimination bracket after a first-round loss to Walker for a third-place finish.
The squad rebounded from the 10-3 defeat with wins against Kenner (21-3), Plaquemines (12-3) and St. Charles (14-8) before falling to West Side All-Stars, 15-12.
Patterson coach Patrick Skiles said he was proud of his squad.
“The girls played hard and with a lot of effort,” he said. “We lost our first game and went into the loser’s bracket and fought our way through the loser’s bracket … Their attitude and effort was great and they played well in all areas — fielding, hitting and pitching.”
In their final game against Westside, Patterson had a chance to tie the game in their final at bat as they had runners on second and third with the tying run at the plate. However, Westside was able to record the game’s final out.
Patterson entered the final inning behind 15-7.
It was the second time in that contest the squad overcame a big lead as they were down 10-1 at one point and closed the game to 10-7.
“They didn’t quit,” he said. “They gave an incredible effort that game.”
While Skiles’ squad qualified for the Babe Ruth 10-year-old Southwest Regionals in Dumas, Texas, he said they would not be attending due to travel and transportation arrangements for the tournament, which is north of Amarillo, Texas.
“Had it been closer we would have gone,” he said of the tournament, which draws teams from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
In the squad’s first game Thursday against Walker, the teams were tied at 3 in the third inning before Walker plated five runs in the frame to break the game open.
Kylia Gregory, Mikah Ortiz and Emily Lipari each scored a run for Patterson.
