Berwick Panther Classic begins today
Five teams will compete in this weekend’s annual Berwick High School Panther Classic, which begins today and continues through Saturday.
In addition to host Berwick, Morgan City, Covenant Christian, Lutcher and Chalmette will participate.
Local games included Covenant Christian meeting Morgan City today at 4 p.m. and Berwick and Morgan City meeting in today’s nightcap at 8 o’clock.
On Friday, Chalmette will play Morgan City at 4 p.m., while Berwick and Lutcher will meet at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Berwick and Covenant Christian will meet at 10 a.m., while Morgan City and Lutcher will play at 2 p.m.

CCHS softball game rescheduled
Central Catholic’s softball game today against Catholic High-New Iberia has been postponed until March 16. The game will be played, beginning at 4 p.m. with varsity, followed by junior varsity.

Berwick powerlifters qualify for state
Twenty of Berwick’s 22 lifters advanced to the Division III State powerlifting meet March 20 at Church Point High.
At the regional meet Feb. 28 at Walker High, the top lifters for Berwick’s girls were Mary Grace Theriot, second place in her weight class with a 390 pound total; and Caroline Osburn placed second in her weight class with a 630 pound total.
Rennen DeLatte and Shelby Bergeron placed fourth in their weight classes with 595 and 520 pounds each.
The boys top performers were second place, Chris Beltran with 750 pounds lifted, and third place, Christian Draper with 1,120 pounds lifted.
Brandon Lemoine placed fifth in his division with 520 total pounds.
Girls who will participate in the state meet are Theriot, Bergeron, Perla Hernandez, Denver Poole, Jordan Lipari, Abbie Koen, DeLatte, Cate Koen, Sydney Aucoin and Osburn.
Qualifying boys are Lemoine, Beltran, Devin Carline, Aaron Barrilleaux, Taylor Fegenbush, Bristol Gros, Trenton Hebert, Chaz Perry, Draper and Austin Vercher.

Berwick/Bayou Vista Baseball Registration
St. Mary Central Dixie Youth Baseball and T-Ball registration is being held in Berwick and Bayou Vista through Wednesday.
Participants can sign up at www.smcbaseball.org.
Also, registration is being accepted at the Berwick Town Hall and the Bayou Vista Community Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays until Wednesday.
Students ages 5-12 as of May 1 are eligible to participate.
A coaches meeting will be held at 6 p.m. March 12 at the Berwick Civic Complex.

Horseshoe association seeking new members
The Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association is seeking new members.
The organization will host its “Day in the Park” Sunday at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.
Welcoming and sanctioning of new players will begin at about 10 a.m.
A Hi-Lo Round Robin Blind Draw Tournament will start around 12-12:30 p.m. Entry fee for this non-sanctioned tournament will be $5.
On Tuesday, Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association will meet under the pavilion by the pits to draw for league teams.
On March 17, the spring league starts.
The association will host two new major tournaments this year, the newly formed Louisiana Open and the HP Pro Tour Tournament.
