St. Mary Pony 14s advance to south zone tourney

St. Mary Pony 14-year-old All-Stars bounced back from a tough loss to the Crowley Nationals with three consecutive wins before falling again to Crowley in the Super Region title game.
After falling to Crowley Nationals 16-0 in five innings Wednesday, St. Mary worked its way through the elimination bracket run-ruling Arnaudville, Jennings and Iowa before falling to Crowley 10-0 in six innings in its tournament finale.
However, St. Mary will advance to the Pony South Zone Tournament in Burleson, Texas, beginning July 31.
In the Super Region Tournament, while St. Mary began playing Arnaudville Thursday, the squad’s game was halted due to weather in the second inning with St. Mary trailing 1-0 with the bases loaded.
On Saturday, St. Mary responded with 12 runs and limited Arnaudville to one more as St. Mary won 12-2 in five innings.
Dylan Landry pitched four innings, surrendered a hit, and fanned four.
Reid Wiley finished the game and pitched an inning, surrendering two hits and fanning one.
Wiley led St. Mary with a 2-for-4 performance with a triple, two RBIs and two runs, while Hayden Pinho finished 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Other top contributors included Kyle Pitre, 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run; Kyle Boudreaux, 1-for-2, two runs; and Joel Singleton, 1-for-4, a run.
At noon Saturday, St. Mary defeated Jennings 11-1 in five innings.
Singleton led St. Mary with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, three RBIs and two runs, while Patrick Robertson was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run.
Other top contributors included Wiley, 1-for-3, an RBI and two runs; Pinho, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Pitre, 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run; and Lukas Carnely, 1-for-4, a run.
Caleb Bernard pitched two innings, surrendered a hit and fanned one, while Singleton pitched two innings, surrendered two hits, one walk and fanned three.
Pitre also pitched an inning of no-hit ball.
On Sunday morning, St. Mary defeated Iowa 14-3 in five innings.
Singleton led St. Mary offensively with a 2-for-4 performance with a double, three RBIs and a run, while Carnely was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run.
Other top contributors included Boudreaux and Cade Thibodeaux, each 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs; Bernard, 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs; Wiley, 1-for-4, two RBIs and two runs; Pitre, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI and two runs; and Bernard, 1-for-4, a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Bernard connected on a two-run double that drove in the deciding runs to end the game in five innings.
On the mound, Bernard pitched three innings and surrendered a hit, a walk and fanned one, while Pitre tossed two innings and surrendered two hits, one walk and fanned three.
At noon Sunday, St. Mary played Crowley and had to beat them twice for the Super Region title.
St. Mary was no-hit in the first game, falling 10-0 in six innings. St. Mary walked twice and fanned 10 times in the contest.
St. Mary Coach Patrick Wiley said he thought pitching-wise, his team did a lot better than when it faced the Crowley Nationals the first time Wednesday.
Boudreaux pitched three innings and surrendered nine hits, one walk and fanned one.
Carnely pitched 2.2 innings and surrendered no hits, walked one and fanned two.
