Residents of Louisiana can ring in the New Year with 5 free crape myrtles by joining the Arbor Day Foundation any time during January 2015.
Patterson Garden Club planted a tree in honor of former Patterson mayor James L. “Jimmy” Bernauer as part of its Arbor Day celebration held Feb. 21. On hand for the event were, from left, Frank Guarisco, Councilman Larry Mendoza, Rosa Butler, Mayor Rodney Grogan, Linda Thomas, Evelyn Estay, Gretchen Lambert, Daisy Leblanc, Angela Shilling-Boyles, Leona Smith, Karla Adams, Johnny Cutrera, Jacob Cutrera, Bernauer and his wife, Lena, and daughter Terri Burnside, and L.B. Patterson Garden Club held an Arbor Day ceremony Feb. 21 at Hattie Watts Elementary in Patterson. Students gave tree-related presentations.
Gretchen Lambert, an avid gardener and Patterson Garden Club’s horticulture committee chairman, presented a program at the February Patterson Garden Club meeting held Feb. 11. Her topic “Natural Remedies for the Garden” were the “Great Green Book of Garden Secrets” by Jerry Baker.

Patterson Garden Club’s meeting and social was held Feb. 11 at the home of Iris Roy. Theme for the meeting was “The Beauty of Natural Gardening.”
Morgan City Garden Club and the City of Morgan City celebrated Arbor Day by planting two crape myrtles on Federal Avenue in memory of Natalia Dean and Kimberly Ratcliff.
