The Morgan City AA All-Stars won their Louisiana Dixie Youth AA State Tournament in West Monroe Thursday with a 14-0 victory against Buckeye.
The Morgan City Red Sox, a 13U travel ball team, placed third in the Grand Slam World Series in Panama City Beach, Florida. The event was held June 20-June 25. The team finished the tournament with a 5-2 mark. The Red Sox began the tournament with a doubleheader, defeating Bones, 7-5, and Thunder,
7-6. The squad then continued action later in the week with a 5-2 win against Powerhouse before splitting a doubleheader. The squad fell to the Snipers, 10-0, but defeated the Warriors, 5-4. On championship day, the tournament’s final day, the Red Sox defeated Powerhouse, 5-4, but were eliminated from the
tournament with a 13-3 loss to the Surge, 13-3. Red Sox team members include, kneeling from left, Jacob Blum, Hugh Hamer, Matthew Mire, Brett Morrell and Luke Freia. The Morgan City AA All-Stars will begin state tournament play Thursday at the Louisiana Dixie Youth 2016 AA State Tournament in West Monroe Thursday.
Patterson AAA All-Star Austin Perkins hits a pitch during Friday’s District 3 Tournament contest against Thibodaux at Peltier Park. The Patterson AAA (9- and 10-year-old) All-Stars qualified for regional competition with a runner-up finish at the District 3 Tournament at Peltier Park in Thibodaux this past weekend.
Class 1A state champion Central Catholic took two of three individual honors on the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 1A All-State baseball team.
