St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said deputies responded to 40 complaints and arrests included the following.
—Rickey J. Lightsey, 38, of the 2600 block of Sixth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:29 p.m. Tuesday for possession of Schedule II (Fentanyl), possession of Legend Drug (Ultram) without a prescription, possession of Legend Drug (Buspar) without a prescription, violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone), obstruction of justice and two counts of resisting an officer.
While patrolling the Berwick area, detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle without a working brake light. Detectives saw a pill bottle of Ultram in the vehicle, Hebert said. Detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located more Ultram pills as well as Buspar pills. Lightsey was unable to produce a prescription for either, he said. As detectives continued the investigation, they observed Lightsey attempting to eat a Fentanyl strip, he said. When detectives attempted to remove the drug from his mouth, Lightsey became combative, he said. Detectives retrieved the strip, and Lightsey was jailed with no bail set.
—Kevin B. Lynch Sr., 42, of the 7400 block of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from the U.S. Marshal’s Office for parole violation. Deputies assisting U.S. Marshals located Lynch at his residence on the warrant. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Louis M. Dutreil Jr., 26, of Marrero, was charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
—Eric S. Landry, 27, of Lafite, was charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
—Rod Pellegrin, 48, of Cut Off, was charged with two counts of felony theft.
The St. Mary and Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s offices began a joint investigation Tuesday into a tug boat captain taking diesel fuel from his employer and selling it at a dock in the Cypremort Point area.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s detectives implemented a surveillance operation off of La. 319 on the Intracoastal Waterway. Detectives watched as tug boat personnel pumped diesel fuel from the boat to an 18-wheel tanker truck parked alongside the waterway.
When detectives approached, the boat workers discarded the hose and fled on the tug boat. Detectives detained the driver and passenger of the tanker truck, Dutreil and Landry.
Detectives located and detained the captain of the tug boat, Pellegrin, at the Ivanhoe dock, a short distance away from the site of the theft.
Detectives learned that Pellegrin planned to sell 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel, valued at $6,000, that night, Hebert said. Pellegrin profited from the sale of fuel that belonged to his employer on at least one other occasion, he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
