Three inmates at the parish jail in Centerville were charged with introducing contraband, including a cell phone and suspected synthetic marijuana, into the jail after a routine search, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
On Wednesday morning, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a regular search of the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville. During the search, deputies located three items of contraband resulting in additional charges against three inmates, Hebert said.
—Fernando Ariano, 34, of Morgan City, is charged with contraband in penal institutions prohibited (possession of contraband in a penal institution) after deputies found a SIM card on Ariano.
—Ronnie Jones, 26, of Bayou Vista, is charged with contraband in penal institutions prohibited (possession of contraband in a penal institution) after deputies located a small bag containing suspected synthetic cannabinoid on him.
—Murray Bridget, 35, of Patterson, is charged with contraband in penal institutions prohibited (possession of contraband in a penal institution) after deputies located a cell phone on Bridget.
Hebert reported responding to 45 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—James Alexander, 50, of the 1000 block of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:06 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear. A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on La. 182 near James Street in Amelia and made contact with the driver, identified as Alexander. During the investigation, the deputy discovered that Alexander was wanted on the active warrant. Alexander was jailed and bail set at $7,500.
—Christopher G. Fryar, 31, of the 100 block of Pond Drive in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A deputy received information from the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding a person with an active warrant from St. Mary Parish. With the assistance of Assumption Parish deputies, the deputy made contact with the person, identified as Fryar, at a business on La. 182 in Amelia. The deputy released Fryar on a summons to appear in court Nov. 14.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Kenneth B. Kiff Jr., 28, of the 1000 block of Red Cypress Road in Patterson, was arrested at 3:58 a.m. today on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear for drug court. Kiff was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
