A 28-year-old Lafayette man was jailed this morning after being accused of pulling away from a deputy responding to a complaint of a man turning over shopping carts at a Bayou Vista store, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jean P. Dupas, 28, of the 700 block of St. Louis Street in Lafayette, was arrested at 2:23 a.m. today for disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting an officer by force or violence. A deputy responded to complaint of a disturbance at a store on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista.
Upon arrival, the deputy identified Dupas as the person who was upending shopping carts in the parking lot, Hebert said. As the deputy attempted to speak with him, Dupas began yelling and cursing at the deputy, Hebert said. The deputy smelled the strong odor of alcohol on Dupas’ breath, the sheriff said.
During the arrest, Dupas attempted to pull away from the deputy, Hebert said. Dupas was jailed with bail set at $1,500.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Leslie Johnson, 20, of the 500 block of Dangerfield Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday for possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids second offense and two warrants for failure to comply with terms and conditions of drug court.
Narcotics detectives received information concerning illegal drug activity on Kellers Lane in Ricohoc. Detectives made contact with Johnson who was found to be in possession of synthetic cannabinoids, Hebert said. Johnson was also wanted on two drug court warrants. Johnson was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Lynn Foland, 52, of Morgan City, was arrested at 1:34 a.m. today for driving under suspension, possession of crack cocaine, no brake lights, obstruction of justice, improper lighting, on a warrant for failure to pay fines for resisting an officer, driving under suspension and no insurance.
While on patrol, police observed a vehicle on La. 182 traveling westbound with what appeared to be pink head lights, Banks said. Upon the officer conducting a traffic stop, they also observed that the vehicle did not have functioning tail lights. Foland was found to be driving under suspension.
Foland was placed under arrest. Upon handcuffing Foland, officers observed Foland attempting to conceal something in his mouth, Banks said. Upon questioning him about it, Foland turned away from officers and attempted to chew and swallow what he had in his mouth, Banks said.
Officers were able to get Foland to surrender a white rock substance, which tested positive for cocaine, Banks said. Foland was jailed with no bail set.
—Heiring Pinn, 39, of Amelia, was arrested at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear for no license plate, a warrant for no insurance, and a warrant for no driver’s license.
Pinn was picked up from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Morgan City Police Department. Pinn was released on $497 cash bail.
—Donald Vilo, 26, of Patterson, was arrested at 2:41 p.m. Wednesday for speeding 36 mph in a 15 mph school zone and driving under suspension.
Police were working the school zone area on Federal Avenue at Wise Street when they observed a vehicle driven by Vilo that was traveling 36 mph in a 15 mph school zone.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke to Vilo and he advised officers that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Upon checking, it was found that Vilo was driving under suspension. Vilo was jailed.
—Christine Sharp, 45, of Patterson, was arrested at 1:31 a.m. today for driving under suspension.
Police were dispatched to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and La. 182 in reference to a possible hit and run. Upon speaking to the victim, they pointed out the suspect vehicle that was involved. Officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, Sharp, and upon checking it was found that she was driving with a suspended driver’s license.
The complainant did not wish to seek charges against the suspect for damages, at which time officers arrested Sharp for driving under suspension, and she was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—William A. Doucet, 47, of the 600 block of Emory Landing Road in Deridder, was arrested at 10:57 p.m. Tuesday for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. Doucet was jailed with no bail set.
—Fred L. Williams, 26, of the 600 block of Eighth Street in Franklin, was arrested at 9:19 a.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace by language. Williams was released on $217 bail.
—Dawn L. Acosta, 34, of the 1400 block of Canal Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday for theft by shoplifting. Acosta was jailed on $337 bail.
—Tresh Jones, 41, of the 1500 block of Plum Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:51 a.m. for remaining where forbidden and on a warrant for another jurisdiction. Jones was jailed.
—Victor R. Rivas Arzu, 57, of the 2400 block of NW North River Drive in Miami, Florida, was arrested at 9:24 a.m. Tuesday for driver’s license, speeding 69 mph in a 55 mph zone. Arzu was released on $806 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
