Man damages five cars in drunken hit and run

A Bayou Vista man is jailed this morning after police say he caused a hit-and-run accident while drunk and damaged five new vehicles.
Justin Lovell, 21, of the 400 block of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista was charged at 3:18 a.m. Sunday with no proof of insurance, second offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated, hit-and-run driving and reckless operation of motor vehicle with accident.
Lovell’s vehicle left La. 182 and caused significant damage to two vehicles on the A.J. Dohmann lot, forcing them into three other vehicles, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
Lovell refused medical care initially but later complained of soreness, so he was brought by police car to Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma, Richard said. When he returned, he was jailed at the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center in Centerville. He remained jailed this morning with no bail set.
St. Mary Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
—Timmy Jones, 53, of the 100 block of Mount Street in Morgan City at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday for improper lane usage, second offense DWI, flight from an officer, four counts resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.
A deputy stopped Jones’ vehicle after seeing it swerve on La. 182 in the Siracusaville area. After smelling the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Jones, the deputy conducted a field sobriety test. Jones performed poorly. During the arrest, Jones pulled away from the deputy, entered his vehicle and fled the scene. With the assistance of Morgan City Police, the deputy apprehended Jones at his residence on Mount Street.
Jones was released after posting $55,000 bail.
—Katherine Mitchell, 31, of the 200 block of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City at 12:52 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for probation violation. A deputy made contact with Mitchell at a business in Bayou Vista and learned of the active warrant. Bail is set at $10,000.
—Khadijah Batiste, 20, of the 300 block of Sugar Plum Street in Houma at 12:12 p.m. Wednesday for theft. A deputy responded to a complaint of a theft at a store in Bayou Vista where he learned that Batiste, an employee, was seen on video surveillance stealing cash instead of placing it in the register on several occasions. The amount of cash taken totaled over $1,100. No bail is set.
—Marc C. Ramsey, 34, of the 600 block of Clarke Road in Bayou Vista at 12:21 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for criminal neglect of family. A deputy investigating an animal complaint on Clarke Road made contact with Ramsey and learned of the active warrant. Ramsey was released on a personal surety bond.
—Varice Richardson, 21, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia at 10:23 p.m. Friday for disturbing the peace (offensive language) and disturbing the peace (fighting). A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Friendship Alley where Richardson was yelling obscene language in the street causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. During the course of the investigation, the deputy also learned that Richardson pushed a male at the residence. Richardson was released on a summons to appear in court March 11, 2015.
—Donna A. Lahre, 58, of St. Petersburg, Florida, at 8:58 a.m. Saturday for DWI. A deputy assisting Morgan City Police with a traffic stop on U.S. 90 in the Amelia area made contact with Lahre and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The deputy conducted a field sobriety test on which Lahre performed poorly. She registered 0.092 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on the breath test. No bail is set.
—Kimberly Glynn, 25, of the 1700 block of Cross Road 2 in Bayou Vista at 4:24 p.m. Saturday for aggravated assault and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of no driver’s license, headlights must dim and license plate light required.
—Joel Floyd II, 26, of the 1700 block of Cross Road 2 in Bayou Vista at 4:24 p.m. Saturday for domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to a complaint of possible domestic abuse at a residence in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned Glynn and Floyd were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical encounter. During the fight, Glynn threw a hairbrush at Floyd, and Floyd pushed Glynn against a wall. No bail is set for Glynn. Floyd was released on $2,500 bail.
—Felicia Young, 43, of the 1000 block of Ciro Street in Morgan City at 11:58 p.m. Saturday for aggravated battery. A deputy responded to a complaint of a possible aggravated battery at a residence on Ciro Street. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned that Young stabbed a female in the arm. The victim sustained a small stab wound. No bail is set.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Robert J. Gussman Jr., 42, of Bush Street in Morgan City at 12:07 a.m. Thursday for simple battery.
Gussman was located at an Aucoin Street residence after officers received a call of a disturbance at a Bush Street residence. In that complaint, Gussman was accused of striking a person during an altercation, then fleeing from the residence. He was booked and jailed.
—Michelle Brown, 42, of Fifth Street in Morgan City at 5:48 a.m. Thursday for disturbing the peace. Brown was arrested after officers were dispatched to Teche Regional Medical Center where Brown was accused by staff and security officers of harassing patients and guests causing a disturbance. Brown reportedly refused demands to stop. She was booked and jailed.
—Caffery J. Williams, 48, of Garber Street in Morgan City at 12:25 a.m. Sunday for possession of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Williams was arrested at a La. 182 convenience store after causing a disturbance with other customers. Williams, who was attempting to drive from the premises, was detained. He was booked and jailed.
—Josue Reyes, 33, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City at 3:04 p.m. Friday for third offense no driver’s license and window tint violation. Reyes was stopped after a patrolling officer observed a vehicle with dark window tint. Reyes was booked and jailed.
—Jerry A. Boyer, 70, of Michigan Street in Morgan City at 5 p.m. Friday for appearing in public intoxicated. Boyer was arrested near the intersection of Freret and Fifth streets after officers were dispatched to that location regarding a subject who was intoxicated. Boyer, who could barely keep his balance, was booked and jailed.
—Peter E. Grogan, 36, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City at 8:47 p.m. Saturday for theft of goods. Grogan was charged after an off-duty officer was advised that Grogan had just attempted to leave a La. 182 supermarket without paying for items valued at $29.22. Grogan was detained and the items recovered. He was booked and jailed.
—Miguel A. Galeas, 25, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City at 2:16 a.m. Sunday for domestic abuse battery and resisting an officer. Officers were dispatched to a Federal Avenue apartment for a report of a male striking a female. Officers found the pair in front of the complex and observed the female to have physical evidence and minor injuries indicating a battery had occurred. Galeas attempted to evade officers and was detained. Galeas was booked and jailed.
—Tyler M. Kapp, 23, of Crenshaw Street in Berwick at 3:43 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear for possession of drug paraphernalia and entry or remaining after being forbidden. Kapp was located near the area of Federal Avenue and Everett Street after officers were dispatched to investigate several people blocking the roadway and refusing to move. Kapp was booked and jailed.
—Francisco Morales, 42, of Houma at 4:16 p.m. Sunday on a 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear for trial for obscenity. A patrolling officer stopped a vehicle and detained the driver, Morales, after a traffic violation was observed. Morales was booked and jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
