Sheriff: Man illegally shot gun in woods

A 61-year-old Amelia man was charged with illegally using a weapon after a deputy responded to a report of gunshots coming from the Friendship Alley area, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—George J. Henderson, 61, of West Syls Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 11:34 a.m. Thursday on the charge of illegal use of a weapon.
At 11:13 a.m., a dispatcher received a call from a complainant stating that gun shots were heard coming from the area of Friendship Alley. The deputy responding to the call heard two gun shots coming from the wooded area near the railroad tracks and located a person carrying a shot gun. The person was identified as Henderson.
The deputy asked Henderson if he had fired the weapon. Henderson claimed he did not. However, when the deputy advised him that she heard the gun shots, Henderson stated that he thought he could hunt in the woods near Friendship Alley. Following the investigation, Henderson was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jaleesa J. Randle, 28, of Singleton Street in Charenton, was arrested at 8:35 a.m. Thursday on the charges of general speed law-construction zone and driving under suspension.
A deputy traveling on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area observed a vehicle moving at 70 mph in a posted 55 mph zone in a construction zone with workers present.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop near Lassus Street and spoke to Randle, the driver. The deputy found that Randle was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Randle was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Ashley E. Collier, 19, of South Central Boulevard in Chauvin, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. Thursday on the charges of following too closely and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives with the K-9 section and narcotics section observed vehicle following closely behind another vehicle on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Collier. While speaking with her, the K-9 detective developed information that Collier had marijuana in the vehicle.
The K-9 team conducted an exterior search of the vehicle and K-9 Buddy showed an odor response indicating that there was an illegal substance inside. The detective searched the vehicle and located small pieces of marijuana, a grinder used to process marijuana, rolling papers, and two pipes used for smoking marijuana.
Collier was jailed and then released on $1,750 bail.
—Brittany Epperson, 29, Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:42 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging her with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives patrolling Morgan City in June 2016 conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Duke Street near Federal Avenue. Detectives spoke with a passenger, identified as Epperson, and received consent to search her purse. Detectives located a syringe suspected of being used to inject illegal drugs and a small empty plastic bag.
Inside the vehicle, detectives found several more used syringes and two spoons. A warrant was issued for Epperson’s arrest. Detectives located Epperson at her home. She was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Robert Skipper, 35, of Dora Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with parole violation.
Officers located Skipper at a home on Bowman Street and arrested him on a warrant. Skipper was jailed.
—Alton M. Kemp Jr., 39, Verdun Lane in Centerville, at 2:23 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of stolen property and on warrants charging him with simple criminal damage to property and failure to appear for telephone harassment.
An officer responded to the area of Victor II Boulevard near Redwood Street in regard to a subject in possession of a stolen bicycle. The officer arrived and located a person matching the description provided riding a bicycle identified as Kemp.
During an investigation, the bicycle was identified as a reported stolen bicycle. Kemp was found to have warrants for his arrest. Kemp was jailed.
—Robert J Barrilleaux, 29, of Cypress Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:54 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Officers located Barrilleaux at a home on Front Street and arrested him on a city court warrant. Barrilleaux was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Tyler Voisin, 25, of Elm Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:33 p.m. Thursday on the charges of driving under suspension and expired license plate. Voisin was released on bail set at $1,250.
—Lennis Paray, 32, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:10 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Paray remains jailed. No bail is set at this time.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
