Area Swampland League action begins today

Staff Report

The annual Swampland baseball season, the summer league for high school baseball teams, will kick off for Tri-City area teams today, but unfortunately, three of the four games scheduled for today have been postponed for later dates.
The only game that will go on is between Frank’s Agency (Patterson) and the Braves (H.L. Bourgeois). That game will begin with junior varsity action at 5 p.m. and varsity play to follow at 7 p.m. at Patterson High.
Meanwhile, Skipper’s Sporting Goods’ (Morgan City) game at the Mustangs (Assumption), Taco Bell’s (Berwick) game against Trinity Oil (Covenant Christian), and Halimar Shipyard’s (Central Catholic) contest at Bayou Boys (South Lafourche) all have been postponed.
While no makeup dates have been set for Halimar’s and Skipper’s contests, Taco Bell’s contest will be played Friday in Berwick with junior varsity set for 5 p.m. and varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Also, Taco Bell’s contest Tuesday at home against the Mustangs has been moved to Wednesday with junior varsity set for 5 p.m. and varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Skipper’s is scheduled to begin its season Monday at home against Taco Bell, while Halimar Shipyard will play the Braves Monday.
In addition to the area teams participating in the league and the teams previously listed, Thibodaux (Reeco Rental), Terrebonne (the Diamondbacks), Vandebilt Catholic (Robichaux Ford), Central Lafourche (Jester’s Court), South Terrebonne (South Louisiana Bank) and Houma Christian all will participate.
The regular season will conclude June 24.
It will be followed by a league tournament that will feature the Top 6 teams in the league. Tournament play will begin June 25 at Berwick High School. The season will conclude with the Swampland League title game June 27.
