St. Mary AARP holds October meeting

St Mary AARP held its meeting and dinner on Oct. 14 with AARP Vice President Curtis Leonard presiding. AnnEtta Lombardo led the group in a blessing and grace.
District Attorney Phil Haney, 16th Judicial District, sponsored the meeting’s meal of meatloaf with gravy and cream potatoes. The meal was prepared by the cooking team of Mac and Myrt McNemar, and Pat Fryer. The membership thanked volunteers and the Haney group for helping serve the meals.
After dinner First Assistant District Attorney Bo Duhé spoke and introduced the group that work in the district attorney’s office.
AARP members were reminded that elections are set for the Nov. 4 meeting. Voting will include officers and board members. Information on everyone running for AARP posts are on a special section of the website at www.stmary aarp.com. That information is also included in the November St. Mary AARP newsletter.
Also in November the organization’s membership drive will be starting. A discount of only $10 per person for a 2-year membership is in force during the membership drive. Beginning January 2014, membership dues will revert back to the usual $12 per person.
Members were reminded that anyone wishing to be in the Mardi Gras court need to fill out forms included in the monthly newsletter or get a copy from the AARP office. Deadline to submit Mardi Gras court entries is at the Nov. 4 meeting.
The meal for the next meeting, at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City, will be chicken and sausage gumbo sponsored by Hargrave Funeral Home.
