DJ Fab is Head Start parade grand marshal

Radio personality Josh “DJ Fab” Singleton of KBZE 105.9 the Breeze will serve as the grand marshal of the 21st Annual Krewe of Head Start Recruitment Parade Saturday Saturday in Franklin.
Singleton is a former Franklin Senior High School band member who has made a name for himself that stretches far beyond St. Mary Parish.
His aspirations to move the crowd began at an early age as he began to follow in the footsteps of his musical mentors, Jammin JP, Dr. Boogie, and DJ HB. In 2012, he started the Fabulous Riders trail riding club and has worked with zydeco greats including Leon Chavis, Lil Nate, J Paul, and Keith Frank. In November 2014, DJ Fab was awarded DJ of the Year at the Zydeco Blues Trail Ride Awards at Houston’s Reliant Stadium.
For the past three years, as official media members, Fab and his co-host Mike Tyte have been fortunate enough to meet and greet with countless celebrities and broadcast live from the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.
Singleton said his love and passion for music began as a young child when he picked up his first pair of drumsticks and began playing drums. His musical skills led him to become section leader of the drum line and also a member of the Thespian Club.
Singleton has been heavily involved in the Head Start program for the past 15 years as all four of his children have been part of the St. Mary CAA Head Start family. Two of his sons, Justin Singleton (Snow White, 2001-2002) and Legend Singleton (Cinderella 2010-2011) have been Head Start kings on the royal courts of each center.
“It seems as if it was merely a matter of time before this homegrown DJ Fab would be Grand Marshal of the St. Mary CAA Head Start parade,” said Chief Executive Officer Almetra J. Franklin.
“The bond that forms between families and teachers helps to implement a system and structure,” Singleton said. “It gives a sense of support for families that may not have that support anywhere else.”
“Parents who may be apprehensive about the Head Start program should not be, because it allows children to form friendships in a classroom environment, implements discipline, and gives the child real world experiences before heading to kindergarten,” Franklin said.
“Overall, Head Start is a wonderful program that helps prepare children for life,” Singleton said. “I love how the staff is always hands-on and gives students and parents different methods to learn and study together.”
The parade begins at 1 p.m. with lineup at 11 a.m. at Franklin Senior High on Cynthia Street. It will traverse the usual parade along Main Street to Willow and onto Third Street where it will disband once every float and entry has reached this point.
