Missing local man found dead by tug workers on Intracostal
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Centerville man who was reported missing Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Mark Heber reports that his office received a report of a missing person at 3:30 p.m. Detectives began an investigation into the whereabouts of 25 year old Nevis Sterling. Sterling’s family contacted the sheriff’s office after locating his car at the Deli Mart on La. 182 in Verdunville.
On Monday at 4:26 p.m., the sheriff’s office received information that workers on a tug boat on the Intracoastal Waterway located a body in the water near a business in the 8000 block of La. 182 in Amelia. The St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office was contacted and identified the deceased as Sterling.
Detectives are investigating the death. Autopsy results are pending.
