Early voting nears 1,800 in St. Mary Parish

Early voting totals in St. Mary Parish neared 1,800 ballots cast through the third day of voting Tuesday, Registrar of Voters Jolene Holcombe said in a news release.
A total of 1,774 people in St. Mary Parish cast votes by the end of early voting Tuesday, Holcombe said. Early voting began Saturday.
On Tuesday, 482 voters cast their ballots with 231 people voting in Franklin and 251 people voting in Morgan City.
As of Tuesday, 932 Democrats have voted; 620 Republicans have voted; and 222 no party voters have cast ballots. A total of 1,234 white voters have cast ballots; 517 black voters have cast ballots; and 23 voters of other races have cast ballots. Further, voters were 824 men and 950 women.
Early voting continues through Nov. 29. Voters can cast ballots early at either the Registrar’s Office on the third floor of the Parish Courthouse in Franklin or at the Registrar’s branch office in Morgan City located at 301 Third St.
People can early vote from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The Registrar’s office will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.
Issues on the ballot include the U.S. Senator runoff; 16th Judicial District Judge, Division G runoff; Justice of Peace runoffs in Wards 5, 7 and 10; Town of Baldwin Police Chief runoff; and the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement District one-half percent sales tax proposition.
