During a high-speed chase that topped speeds of 105 miles per hour Thursday and ended in the arrest of a man in Centerville, the suspect was accused of trying to run over two Patterson police officers, Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said.
—Charles Vernon Brown Jr., 32, of the 700 block of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Thursday for 14 counts of stop sign violation, 12 counts of violation of general speed law, speeding 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, speeding 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, driving under the influence, driving under suspension, aggravated flight, wrong way on a one-way street, reckless operation, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, speeding 100 mph in a 65 mph zone and on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for theft of goods, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court.
The chase began in the area of Plum and Hickory streets in Patterson, LaSalle said. Brown cut through the back of someone’s yard trying to get to Williams Street, LaSalle said. During the chase, there was a discharge of firearms, LaSalle said. The vehicle went into a ditch and then attempted to run over two police officers, LaSalle said.
Brown got the vehicle back on the road, and officers pursued him clocking the vehicle, at times, more than 105 mph, LaSalle said. Officers chased Brown along U.S. 90 and La. 182 all the way to Centerville where, while trying to get away from police, he ran the vehicle into a pole, LaSalle said. During the chase, officers were able to puncture the tires on Brown’s vehicle, LaSalle said. Brown was jailed with no bail set.
LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Donovan Thompson, 23, of the 500 block of Marie Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. Thursday for driver’s license suspended, two head lights out and windshield condition. Thompson was released on $675 bail.
—Michael Delaune, 36, of the 600 block of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:01 p.m. Thursday for distribution of marijuana. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Jayd Adams, 17, of the 700 block of Kelli Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 8:09 p.m. Thursday for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of tobacco products under age 18. No bail was set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
A traffic stop led to the discovery of two meth labs Thursday at a Morgan City residence and two arrests in connection with the case, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Lynette Guidry, 32, of the 3100 block of Wytchwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:12 p.m. Thursday for violation of general speed law, vehicle license required, driving under suspension, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Ira Grow Jr., 58, of the 3100 block of Wytchwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:26 p.m. Thursday for manufacturing methamphetamine, operation of a clandestine laboratory, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives patrolling U.S. 90 in the Amelia area observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, 85 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone, the sheriff said. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Guidry. While speaking to Guidry, detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located three bags of methamphetamine and a glass pipe, Hebert said.
Detectives also located a bag of methamphetamine on Guidry, the sheriff said. During the traffic stop, detectives discovered that the license plate on the vehicle had been canceled and that Guidry was driving under suspension. Guidry was jailed with no bail set.
The bags of drugs located during the traffic stop investigation were consistent with street level drug sales leading detectives to continue the investigation at an address in the 3100 block of Wytchwood Drive. There, detectives made contact with Grow and received consent to search the residence, Hebert said.
Detectives located methamphetamine, two active clandestine labs, two firearms and multiple items used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, Hebert said. Grow was jailed with no bail set.
—Stacey Tabor, 32, of the 700 block of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:50 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for five counts of unauthorized use of an access card. Tabor was located at the Morgan City jail and booked on the warrant with no bail set.
—Jarret C. Cortez, 26, of the 200 block of Vivian Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:13 p.m. Thursday on five warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. A drug court compliance deputy transported Cortez from the Assumption Detention Center to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. Bail is set at $500,000.
—Brian Delaune Jr., 29, of the 3900 block of Mount Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:33 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of subutex, possession of oxycodone, and violation of a protective order. Delaune was transported from the Morgan City Police Department to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant.
—Palmer Cox IV, 50, of the 700 block of Oregon Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:10 p.m. Thursday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of possession, distribution, or sale of a Legend Drug without a prescription, possession of Schedule I second offense, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, operating a vehicle with improper stop lamps and for failure to appear on the charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended license
During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a jailer conducting a standard warrants check located the two active warrants for Cox’s arrest. No bail is set.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Reginald K. Sims, 33, of Franklin, was arrested at 3:59 p.m. Thursday for possession of Schedule I marijuana third offense, obstruction of justice, resisting an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of synthetic marijuana and on a Franklin Police Department warrant for domestic abuse battery and resisting an officer.
Morgan City police detectives received information regarding the location of Reginald Sims, who was wanted on outstanding warrants for the Franklin Police Department. Officers proceeded to the La. 182 motel to locate Sims.
Sims was observed attempting to flee officers by escaping through a rear window of the motel room. Sims observed officers and re-entered the room and attempted to destroy suspected marijuana by flushing the substance down the toilet, Griffin said. Officers attempted to restrain Sims, however he continued to resist and attempted to flee the bathroom, Griffin said.
Sims then returned to the bathroom and attempted to discard more evidence and was eventually subdued. Sims was placed under arrest and a search warrant was obtained for the location.
Officers were able to recover suspected marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia including packaging material and a scale, Griffin said. Sims was jailed with no bail set.
—Joseph P. Percle, 27, of Thibodaux, was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for contempt of court and probation violation.
Percle turned himself in to officers at the Morgan City Police Department and was booked on outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City. He was jailed.
—Michael C. Cochran, 55, of Louisa Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:28 p.m. Thursday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
—Felix Ocasio Jr., 46, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:28 p.m. Thursday for no driver’s license, improper lighting and no proof of liability insurance.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
