Morgan City man killed in Stephensville motorcycle crash

A 25-year-old Morgan City man died in a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon in Stephensville after he struck a utility pole and went into a bayou, according to a St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office news release.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Four Mile Bayou Road in Stephensville, the release stated. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Trenton L. Helflin, 25, Morgan City, failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and entered the waterway. He was ejected from his motorcycle, and due to the injuries he sustained in the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene, the release stated.
The initial investigation into the crash revealed that alcohol did not appear to be a factor, but speed was a factor in the crash, the release said. The investigation is ongoing, the release stated.
