NeNe, as he was affectionately known by his family, loved life and lived it to the fullest. Nevis was a very loving, generous, and loyal young man who always saw the good in people and accepted others as they were. He was also extremely smart. While attending Franklin High School he was in the gifted program, graduated in 2008 with a TOPS scholarship, and then briefly attended LSU. Nevis enjoyed playing sports as well and was a big Saints fan. He also loved animals, especially his cat, Mr. O. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

We would like to share with you the origin of Nevis’ name. Through research his father discovered that our last name, Sterling, was of British origin. He then discovered Ben (Benjamin) Nevis, which is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom and the entire British Isles. Standing at 4,409 feet tall, this majestic creation of God inspired Nevis’ first and middle name. We later learned that there is also a beautiful Island of Nevis (‘ni: vis). It is a small island in the Caribbean Sea that forms part of the inner arc of the Leeward Islands chain of the West Indies. Nevis and the neighboring island of Saint Kitts constitute one country: the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Let us never forget our unique and angelic Nevis Benjamin Sterling.
