JAMES D. VENABLE
Sept. 17, 1942 ~ Nov. 10, 2015
James D. Venable, a native of Osceola, AR and a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at the age of 73 on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home in Franklin. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, November 13, at 2 p.m., at Little Pass Baptist Church in Charenton. Officiating his services will be the Rev. Bobby Hodnett and the Rev. Dr. Chris Holloway. Visitations at Little Pass will begin at 10 a.m. until service time.
James D. Venable (Jim) was born in Mississippi County, AR September 17, 1942 to Beulah and Isaac Jackson Venable. Raised in Satartia (sa-tar-sha) MS with his two brothers and four sisters, Jim learned work at a young age. He served in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He worked jobs around Yazoo City, Bentonia, MS before he found his true calling. In 1975 God brought him to Linda Mozingo and he didn’t hesitate to take on the task of raising three boys that were not his biological children and moving the family to Charenton to become a commercial fisherman with his brother-in-law, Robert Truelove. Eventually Jim followed Linda down the muddy levee road to Little Pass Church where he drove the church bus and later helped build the new church and eventually becoming deacon at Little Pass Church. During his work career Jim attained his captain’s license and piloted tugboats up and down the Intercoastal Waterway. He ran the ferry at Cote Blanche, created intricate molds for sugar cane parts at Moresi Foundry in Jeanerette. His hands held amazing talent whether it be carving ducks, creating wooden bowls or tinkering with friends’ furniture. Whatever he did he always gave one hundred percent and that included coin collecting and playing with grandkids. God’s love shone through everything he did.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Linda Mozingo Venable; his sons, Dan Anderson and his wife, Rebecca; Darin Anderson and Dalin Anderson; daughters, Bonnie Venable and Patty Collins; grandchildren Juanita, Brieanna, Jasi, Jovan, Conner, Dane, Sam, Britney, Devin, Matt, Dayla, Christopher and Anna; sisters, Sonya Truelove and Cathy Robins; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Jones and Linda Burgess; and brothers, Dennis and Jack Venable.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Jim’s caregiver, Jacky, for all of your comfort and care given to him.
