ROBERT MATTHEW BOUDREAUX
Greenville, NC - Mr. Robert Matthew Boudreaux, a WWII retired veteran, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 91 on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center in the Palliative Care Unit in Greenville, NC surrounded by his family.
Mr. Boudreaux, a long-time resident of Greenville, NC was born and raised in South Central Louisiana. He gave up a full paid scholarship to LSU to join the United States Marines after Pearl Harbor was bombed. He served in the South Pacific during WWII for a total of 20 years prior to his retirement from the military. He also met and married Joan Spruill Boudreaux in 1955.
Following his military service, he completed his education at East Carolina University receiving both his under-graduate and graduate degrees in counseling in less than 4 years. He served as the first Financial Aid Director for East Carolina University and retired from that role in 1985 after 18 years of service.
Mr. Boudreaux served in the Lions Club and continued to serve in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the remainder of his days. He will be fondly remembered by his family and others as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Maria and Minos Boudreaux, Mr. Boudreaux was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 59 years, Joan S. Boudreaux.
He is survived by sons, R. Mark Boudreaux of Chapel Hill, NC and Jimmy P. Boudreaux and wife, Barbara, of Albertson, NC; daughter, Susan B. Drake and Allen Mooring of Farmville, NC; grandchildren, Jordan Parnin, Macy Cannon, Chandler Drake, Alec Harper, Bradley Harper and Cameron Harper.
