MR. IRA J. ‘POPPA’ MORVANT

Funeral services for Mr. Ira J. Morvant, “Poppa,” 52, will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Those attending the service should gather at the New Life Christian Center Tuesday for the 11:30 a.m. service. Following the service the motorcade will be going to Holy Family Cemetery, located on Curtis Lane in New Iberia, for the committal service. The New Life Christian Center is located at 207 Bayard St. Pastor Chester Hills will officiate. Visitation will be held at Acadian Funeral Home Monday afternoon, at 4 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will close at 8 p.m.
Mr. Morvant was born on December 23, 1963 in Lafayette. His parents now deceased, were Ira and Leanna Suire Morvant. Mr. Morvant passed away at his New Iberia residence Wednesday evening, February 24, 2016, at 11:10 p.m. He was a welder by trade. He enjoyed working on cars, watching television, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family.
Mr. Morvant leaves behind his wife, Sandra Gaspard Morvant of New Iberia; two children, Bryce Morvant and wife, Nina, and Poppy Morvant, both of New Iberia; three brothers, John Romero and wife, Francis, of New Iberia; Martin Romero and wife, Ellen of DeRidder; and Matthew Morvant and wife, Jennie, of Franklin; three uncles, Eugene Suire of New Iberia, Michael Suire of Erath and Edmond Morvant; two aunts, Verona Morrison of Caldwell, TX and Jenores Lohr of New Iberia; two grandchildren, James Nicholas Jr. and Jaden Nicholas, both of New Iberia; along with a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Morvant was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Michael and Charles Morvant; paternal grandparents, Clifford and Annie T. Morvant; and maternal grandparents, Eugene and Inez Suire Sr.
Serving as pallbearers will be John and Martin Romero, Matthew and Bryce Morvant, Dewayne Suite and Calvin Gaspard.
The family would appreciate donations to the family to assist in funeral expenses.
