SANDRA ANN RUIZ COOPER
Ma -San
October 23, 1941- April 11, 2016
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all, Sandra Ann Ruiz Cooper, “Ma San,” died peacefully in Houma, Louisiana, on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the age of 74.
Ma San was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Edward Ruiz Jr. and Lucille Major “Baby Lou” Ruiz. She married her former husband and continued friend, Clarence Cooper, and the oilfield brought them to Morgan City.
While caring for her family, Ma San began working at Johnston Brothers in Patterson as the office manager/bookkeeper. She thoroughly enjoyed her work, and even more so, enjoyed the company of her dearest friends she worked with, especially her best friend of more than 50 years, Paula Crouch.
Ma San will always be remembered as someone who loved nothing more than to put a smile on the faces of her friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh and enjoyed spreading her joy and laughter to all.
She loved to cook and bake and could always be counted on to have a delicious meal prepared whenever her family was together. She will most fondly be remembered as someone who fiercely loved everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Ma San is survived by two children, her son Chris Cooper and his wife, Shirley, of Morgan City and her daughter Crystal Roy of Centerville. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jennifer Cooper Wylie, her husband Doug, and their son Nathan, of Baton Rouge; Jonathan Cooper, his wife Jennifer, and their children Little Chris and Mackenzie, of Patterson; and Kailyn Roy Daniel, her husband Doug, and their daughter Caroline, of Lafayette. She also leaves behind her brother, Edward Ruiz III and her sister, Winslyn Hano, both of Baton Rouge; her three nieces, Ronalyn Hano, Sh’Rhele McGee, and Jamie McCallister, and their children and grandchildren.
Ma San was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lucille Ruiz; her son-in-law, Maxie Roy Jr., and his mother and Ma San’s longtime friend, Marie Roy.
