Educator, parish councilman Charles Middleton dies at 75

Longtime educator and public servant Charles Earl “Butch” Middleton passed away Wednesday at age 75.
Middleton, 75, a resident and native of Franklin, died Oct. 21, 2015 at 10 p.m. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, La.
Visitation will be observed Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Franklin High School Auditorium, 1401 Cynthia St. in Franklin. The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. will conduct final rights at 12:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Benny Druilhet, officiating. Entombment will follow funeral services in the Mausoleum Section of the Franklin Cemetery.
Dedicated to the community that he lived in, Charles was a retired educator and principal in the St. Mary Parish School System; an elected official serving District 2 of the St. Mary Parish Council; and a member of the Save Our Children Organization. Charles also was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
Known as “Butch” to all who knew and loved him, Charles leaves his legacy of love and reconciliation with his loving wife, Edna Mae Middleton of Franklin; one son, Donnie K. Middleton and his wife Danielle of Thibodaux, La.; one daughter, Damarra K. Middleton of Fort Polk, La.; two brothers, Ernest “Pete” Middleton and his wife Rosa of Oswego, New York; and Kent J. Middleton and his wife Shirley of Pelham, Ala.; one sister, Dorric Middleton of Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends and loved ones.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy John Middleton and Viola Pollard-Middleton and one brother, Murphy Lee Middleton.
