FELIX J. DEROUEN

April 21, 1930- October 30, 2015
Our beloved Uncle Felix J. DeRouen, 85, passed away peacefully under the care of Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care and Consolata Nursing Home Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, due to kidney failure and colon cancer.
There will be no services and Felix will be buried in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Felix was born on April 21, 1930, one of 14 children of Eraste and Eloadie DeRouen, at an area now known as Bull Island in Iberia Parish.
After helping his family on the farm as a young man, Felix enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman overseas in Germany for the majority of his enlistment. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Felix began a lifelong career in the Army Corps of Engineers as a lock master at the Bayou Boeuf Locks in Morgan City. During this time, he can be remembered for his many projects with nephew, Arlen, and for fun times with all at the camp in Bull Island.
Felix later retired from his position with the Army Corps of Engineers and stayed in Morgan City for many years, often being seen at Mass and the local health club. In 2007, he relocated to New Iberia to stay with his niece, Tuela Viator DeRitter. In late 2008, he then became a resident of Consolata Nursing Home in New Iberia until his death.
Felix, a man who will be remembered as being strong in his faith, always said to everyone that prayer is the key to happiness. Felix often told us to remember the acronym A.C.T.S. in prayer. A – Is for adoration, we adore the power of love and presence of God in our lives. C – Is for contrition, telling God we’re sorry. T – Is for thanksgiving, as we should always find reason to give thanks for what we have. Lastly, S – Is for supplication, asking God for what we want.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Boudreaux and husband, Vernis, of New Iberia; nieces, Tuela Viator DeRitter and Brenda DeRouen, both of New Iberia; and nephew, Arlen DeRouen of New Iberia; along with many other great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eraste DeRouen and Eloadie DeRouen; brothers, Etienne DeRouen, Leonce DeRouen, Ulysse DeRouen, Edwin “Teebeb” DeRouen and Paul “Whitney” DeRouen; and sisters, Clara Romero, Annie Mae Kern, Odalie “Shute” Viator, Anna “Noon” DeRouen and Zulma “Meon” Lajunie, Ida Michel and Sue Stepp.
Additionally, he was also preceded in death by his best friend and prayer partner, Carol Thibodaux of Morgan City.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks for the compassionate loving care of Felix in his final days by Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care and to all of the staff at the Consolata Nursing home during Felix’s time as a resident.
