JANET R. GODFREY

Funeral services for Janet Ruth Godfrey, 61, were held Saturday, April 2, 2016, at St. John Baptist Church in Ville Platte, LA. She died March 27 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte.
Jan, born Oct. 22, 1954, was the oldest daughter of Brace B. Godfrey Sr. and Ezola Harrison Godfrey, and was a sister to Paul J. Godfrey, former Banner-Tribune managing editor.
She was a graduate of Ville Platte High School and attended Southern University at Baton Rouge. She was employed by the Evangeline Parish Police Jury for more than 35 years. She was a lifelong member of St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Freddie Jack, pastor; director of the Red Circle Department, program organizer; and speaker for various occasions.
Jan leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Deidra Lissette Godfrey of Ville Platte; and grandson, Ethan Brace Pleasant; three brothers, Curtis L Godfrey of Greenwood, MS; David (Pat) Godfrey of Missouri City, TX; and the Rev. Paul (Marian) Godfrey of Baldwin; two sisters, Priscilla G. Charles of Lafayette; and Lisa (Chris) Slaughter of Ville Platte; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia T. Godfrey of Baton Rouge; and Elaine L. Godfrey of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Brace B. Godfrey Jr. and Donald “Duck” Godfrey and one sister, Ophelia Godfrey.
Final arrangements were entrusted to the Williams Funeral Home. She was buried in the St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
