MARCIE ANNE O’NIELL LITTLE
Marcie Anne O’Niell Little was born in Franklin, La. on May 25, 1922 and passed away from this life at home on Oct. 4, 2015. Marcie was raised in Franklin, the daughter of the late Wilson McKerall O’Niell and his wife, Anne Rogers O’Niell, and brother of the late Wilson McKerall O’Niell, Jr.
She grew up in a loving home and often expressed how she learned kindness and graciousness from her loving grandparents and numerous aunts, and uncles. Marcie attended Newcomb College, was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and a graduate of LSU where she majored in English and continued her graduate studies in social work at Tulane. Marcie especially cherished her years living in New Orleans where she worked as a social worker at Charity Hospital then met and married the “love of her life,” the late W. Ross Little of Mobile, AL. Marcie and Ross started their family in New Orleans but ultimately settled down and raised their two sons in Franklin. Marcie always was grateful for the gifts of family and friends.
In fun and kindness, Marcie loved to give “A” and “F” grades to those she loved. Marcie researched and wrote her life story in a memoir, “Truly Blessed”. Marcie was a long time member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and was an avid bridge player who learned her sharp skills at her grandparent’s knees. Over the years, she was involved in many civic activities, including the Crowell Elementary PTA, Fortnightly, helping to build the first swimming pool in Franklin, the St. Mary Chapter of the Louisiana Landmarks Society and several others.
Mourning her loss are her two sons and their families, William Ross Little, Jr. and Julie Sonnier Little and Patrick O’Niell Little and Elizabeth Tromp Little and her grandchildren, Patrick O’Niell Little, Jr. and his wife, Alison Hjelseth, Madeline Elizabeth Little, Clara Anne Little, William Ross Little, III, Julia Marie Little, John O’Niell Little, Noah James Little, together with her long-time friend Myrtle Dennis.
The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the many caregivers who took gentle care of her over the years, Martha Portier, William Dennis, Gwen Mitchell, Betty Polidore, Lisa Shaw, Bambi James, Denise Provost, Tiffany Wilson, Cora Henry.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the family home in Franklin at 218 Circle Drive.
Services, Tuesday, Oct. 6, will begin at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Franklin with the Rev. Stephen Crawford officiating.
Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
