MILDRED GUIDRY PLATTSMIER
March 10, 1922-May 3, 2016
Mildred Guidry Plattsmier of Baton Rouge, died May 3, 2016, at the age of 94. Born March 10, 1922, she grew up in Ridge, and was a graduate of Indian Bayou High School.
Mildred met and married her husband, Bennett Bernard Plattsmier, in Rayne, and they had two children, a daughter Susan Marie Plattsmier Carbo and a son, Charles “Chuck” Bennett Plattsmier. In 1955, they moved to Patterson, where they resided for over 40 years. Mildred was a devout Catholic and was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church, teaching elementary catechism, guiding adults in their journey through RCIA as they joined the Catholic faith, and worked with the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. A “stay at home mom” her entire married life, her husband and children were her life, never wavering in her love, devotion and support of each of them. She was an accomplished seamstress, cake baker and decorator, and used her artistic talents in creating beautiful porcelain dolls and other items.
She is survived by her sister, Gerelda Champagne, and two brothers, Harvey Mouton and wife, Shelva Dean, and Patrick Mouton and wife, Pam. She is also survived by her daughter, Susan Plattsmier Carbo and her husband, Harold; her son, Charles Plattsmier and his wife, Sally Achord Plattsmier; five grandchildren, Brett Carbo and wife, Leanna, Stephanie Carbo Schiller and husband, Andrew, Brad Carbo and wife, Heidi, Joanna Plattsmier, and Christopher Plattsmier; and six great-grandchildren, Kristin Carbo, Andrea Carbo, Breanna Carbo, Olivia Schiller, Bradley Carbo and Josephine Carbo.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett; her father, Henri Guidry; her mother, Elzia Hanks Guidry Mouton; her stepfather, Sidney Mouton; and an infant son, Patrick Joseph.
Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson Friday, May 6, 2016, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with the start of the Catholic Rite of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Patterson where family and friends will celebrate her life. Interment will follow immediately at the St. Mary Memorial Park in Patterson.
The family wants to express our heartfelt thanks to the sitters, Kathy, Rachelle, LaTonya, Chantel and Mattie, who have been with us on this journey for the last six years, for their loving care and devotion to our mother.
