PETER ANTHONY ACOSTA
October 31, 1955- October 11, 2015
Peter Anthony Acosta, a native of Morgan City and resident of Bayou L’Ourse, passed away a few weeks shy of his 60th birthday on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at his home.
Peter was born on Oct. 31, 1955, on his parents’ first anniversary in Morgan City, to Alvin “Dookie” Acosta and Nettie McCloy Acosta.
Peter was a son, brother, uncle and friend to all. He lived his life with an open heart, having not only a family, but a work family who he loved dearly. One of the greatest delights of his life was to spend Thirsty Thursdays with his Rouses family. If music played, he danced, and nothing brought him greater joy than embarrassing his nieces, whether it was Katelyn marching in a parade or Tracey eating beans at Popeyes. He often danced to music only he heard, and you would find him with a hurricane in hand at Rhythms on the River on any given Friday. He planned his vacations around the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival to “pass a good time.” Peter always offered a smile, and he set aside one day each week to spend with his mother, Nettie. His wit and sense of humor was unmatched and will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
Pete will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his partner of 31 years, Devin Aucoin of Bayou L’Ourse; his mother, Nettie Acosta of Morgan City; three brothers, Daryl Acosta and his wife, Kathy, Bobby Acosta and his wife, Marilou, all of Bayou L’Ourse, and Gary Acosta and his wife, Denisa of Morgan City; three nieces, Katelyn Acosta and her fiancé, Brett Reulet, his godchild, Tracey Acosta Braud and her husband, Eli Braud, and Kristy Acosta; one nephew, Joseph Acosta and his wife, Sabrina; great-niece and godchild, Aubree Acosta; great-nephew, River Braud; godchild, Michael Cavalier, son of Nickie and Bonnie Cavalier; and a special cousin who was like a sister to Pete, Roxanne Smith-Parks, her husband, Boyd and son Andrew. He is also survived by his Rouses family, with whom he worked and loved for many years. He leaves his fur babies Belle and Buddy, with Scrappy and Teddy gone on before him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin “Dookie” Acosta, who rejoiced with the heavenly multitude on his son’s homecoming. He was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Lena Belle Verret McCloy and Daniel McCloy; and paternal grandparents, Hilda Gayon Acosta and Alvin “Pete” Acosta, his namesake.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at Twin City Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. The visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Clyde Mahler officiating. Following Mass, Peter will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
