Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson during an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Ray Jude Vidos Sr., who passed away at the age of 71 on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016. He will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, with military honors provided by the United States Army, Fort Polk, and the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad. Father Herb Bennerfield will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services.
A gathering of family and friends will be held today, Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m.. Visitations will resume Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
Ray was a native of Morgan City and a resident of Patterson for the past 22 years. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Cuba during the Vietnam War. Following an honorable discharge, he enlisted in the Rhode Island National Guard with the 861st Engineering Battalion. In 1993, he transferred to the 256th Infantry until retiring from the military in 2006. Also during his earlier years, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was also a longtime patrolman with the St. Mary Sheriff Office and then the Morgan City Police Department. Some of his favorite pastimes were target shooting and carpentry. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Katherine Moriarty Vidos; his son, Ray Jude Vidos Jr. of Labadieville; one grandson, Sgt. Colin Ray Vidos, who is stationed in Savannah, Georgia; and two brothers, Jerry Vidos of Florida and Robert Lee of Mamou.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Sweetie Gautreau Lee and Sidney Lee; his father, Charles Vidos; and one brother, Dale Lee.
